Job Summary:
The HSE Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety and environmental programs to ensure a safe and compliant workplace. This role involves monitoring workplace activities, conducting risk assessments, implementing safety measures, and ensuring adherence to local and international safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Risk Assessment & Safety Audits:
- Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
- Develop and implement corrective actions and preventive measures to eliminate or reduce risks.
- Perform safety audits to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
- Policy Development:
- Develop, update, and maintain health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Ensure company policies are aligned with local, national, and industry safety regulations.
- Communicate safety policies to employees and provide guidance on safety practices.
- Training & Development:
- Organize and conduct safety training sessions, drills, and workshops for employees.
- Create educational materials on safety procedures, emergency response, and incident reporting.
- Ensure proper safety induction and ongoing training for all employees and contractors.
- Incident Investigation:
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes.
- Document and report findings, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain detailed records of incidents, inspections, and safety reports.
- Compliance Monitoring:
- Ensure compliance with HSE regulations, including OSHA, ISO, and local safety standards.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in safety legislation and industry best practices.
- Coordinate with external regulatory bodies during safety audits and inspections.
- Environmental Management:
- Oversee environmental management programs, including waste disposal, pollution control, and sustainability initiatives.
- Develop and monitor programs to reduce the company’s environmental impact.
- Ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
- Emergency Preparedness:
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures.
- Conduct regular emergency drills and ensure all safety equipment is functional and accessible.
- Act as a point of contact for emergency situations, coordinating responses as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Environmental Science, Safety Management, or a related field.
- 2-5 years of experience in HSE or a similar role.
- Relevant certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or IOSH are preferred.
- Knowledge of safety management systems like ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Strong understanding of local and international safety regulations.
