Mechanical Maintenance Engineer Section Head – Haram Factory
Job Summary:
The Mechanical Maintenance Engineer Section Head is a leadership role within the Maintenance Department at ROYAL Herbs, responsible for overseeing all mechanical maintenance activities across the company’s facilities, encompassing both pharmaceutical and food & beverage manufacturing operations. This position ensures the reliable and efficient operation of all mechanical equipment, minimizes downtime, and contributes to the overall safety and productivity of the plant. The incumbent will lead a team of mechanical maintenance engineers and technicians, develop and implement maintenance strategies, manage maintenance schedules, troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies. This role requires strong technical expertise in mechanical systems, proven leadership abilities, excellent problem-solving skills, and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities and Key Duties:
- Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, train, and supervise a team of mechanical maintenance engineers and technicians, fostering a high-performance and collaborative work environment.
- Manage workload distribution, set performance expectations, conduct performance reviews, and support the professional development of team members.
- Ensure adequate staffing and resources are available to meet maintenance demands.
- Promote a culture of safety, proactive maintenance, and continuous improvement within the mechanical maintenance team.
- Maintenance Strategy and Planning:
- Develop and implement comprehensive mechanical maintenance strategies, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs, tailored to the needs of both pharmaceutical and food & beverage equipment.
- Contribute to the development of the overall maintenance budget and manage expenditures within the mechanical maintenance section.
- Plan and schedule routine maintenance activities, shutdowns, and major overhauls in coordination with production and other departments.
- Identify critical spare parts and manage inventory levels to minimize downtime.
- Evaluate and recommend new maintenance technologies and equipment to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Mechanical System Expertise and Troubleshooting:
- Possess in-depth knowledge of a wide range of mechanical equipment, including pumps, compressors, HVAC systems, gearboxes, bearings, piping, pressure vessels, and other rotating and static equipment used in both pharmaceutical and food & beverage manufacturing.
- Lead the troubleshooting of complex mechanical failures and provide technical guidance to the maintenance team.
- Develop and implement effective repair procedures and ensure adherence to safety standards.
- Analyze equipment performance data to identify trends and potential issues, recommending proactive maintenance actions.
- Preventive and Predictive Maintenance:
- Develop and optimize preventive maintenance schedules and procedures based on equipment specifications, operating conditions, and reliability analysis.
- Implement and manage predictive maintenance technologies (e.g., vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography) to identify potential equipment failures early.
- Analyze predictive maintenance data and recommend appropriate maintenance actions.
- Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date maintenance records are maintained, including work orders, repair logs, equipment history, and inspection reports.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for mechanical maintenance activities.
- Contribute to the development and management of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all mechanical maintenance activities are performed in compliance with relevant safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
- Participate in safety audits and risk assessments related to mechanical equipment and maintenance procedures.
- Promote a strong safety culture within the team and ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure compliance with relevant GMP requirements for pharmaceutical equipment and hygiene standards for food & beverage equipment.
- Project Management and Coordination:
- Manage small to medium-scale mechanical maintenance projects, including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and execution.
- Coordinate with other departments (e.g., Production, Engineering, Procurement) on maintenance-related projects and activities.
- Oversee the work of external contractors performing mechanical maintenance services.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in mechanical maintenance processes, equipment reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) of equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in mechanical maintenance technologies and best practices.
- External Interactions:
- Equipment Suppliers and Vendors:
- Liaise with suppliers of mechanical equipment, spare parts, and maintenance services to ensure quality, timely delivery, and competitive pricing.
- Participate in the evaluation and selection of new mechanical equipment.
- Resolve technical issues and warranty claims with vendors.
- External Maintenance Service Providers:
- Manage and oversee the work of external contractors performing specialized mechanical maintenance tasks (e.g., major overhauls, specialized repairs).
- Ensure external service providers comply with company safety and quality standards.
- Regulatory Inspectors (Occasional):
- May interact with regulatory inspectors during audits related to the maintenance of equipment used in pharmaceutical and food & beverage manufacturing, providing information and documentation as required.
- Industry Forums and Associations:
- May participate in relevant industry groups or conferences to stay updated on best practices and new technologies in mechanical maintenance.
- Equipment Suppliers and Vendors:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 5-8 years of progressive experience in mechanical maintenance within the pharmaceutical and/or food & beverage industries, with a strong understanding of the specific requirements of both sectors.
- Proven experience in leading and managing a team of maintenance professionals.
- In-depth knowledge of various types of mechanical equipment and systems used in manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance methodologies.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with CMMS systems.
- Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and GMP requirements for pharmaceutical equipment and hygiene standards for food & beverage equipment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineering license or certification.
- Experience with specific CMMS software.
- Certifications in reliability engineering or maintenance management.

- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and their application to maintenance.
